How to Create Playdough without Cream of Tartar or Heat

Ingredients:

• Kool-aid or food coloring (optional)

• 1 cup flour

• 1 tsp Salt

• 3-4 tbsp Warm water

• 1 tsp Vegetable oil

Steps:

1. Get all of your ingredients together.
   
2. First, put in the flour. 
   
   
   
3. Next, put in the salt. 
   
4. Then,put in the vegetable oil. 
   
5. After, that put in the warm water. 
   
6. Lastly, put in the kool-aid. 
   
7. So mix it all up until it gets thick. 
   
8. Scoop it up in your hands and roll it into a ball. 
   
9. Put it in a plastic bag. 
   
10. Then put it in the freezer for 3 mins before you or the kids play with it. 
    
11. Finished.

This is an interesting little project that shows some creativity when it comes to making projects and making catapults. It fires from the bottom rather than the top. And it posed a nice little engineering problem.

Ice Cream Addition

Adding is better if you have fun. That is why students use colored paper, a little bit of imagination, and creativity to make addition problems using Ice-Cream Scoops as models.

Happy Father's Day

Swordfish students are doing their Father's Day Cards. They are doing their best and all of them are so excited doing something special to their dads.
Here are some words children want to say to all dads in this day:

When I was born,
You were there to catch me when I fall, whenever and wherever.
When I said my first words,
You were there for me,
to teach me the whole dictionary if needed be.
When I took my first steps,
You were there to encourage me on.
When I had my first day at school,
you were there to give me advice and help me with my homework.
I still have not finished school,
or walked down the aisle, or had my first child.
But I know you will be there for me through all these times and more, the good and bad.
So I just wrote this to say 'I LOVE YOU DAD!!!'

Going To Universidad Agraria

Students were waiting minutes to go to Universidad Agraria to see how is the process of planting seeds.
They did not only see the procedure of planting seeds if not they had a hands on activity.
They worked in groups to plant their own seeds. Children learnt all the steps to plant new seeds. They Also had the help of Mr. Roca who gave them information about plants.
We spent a meaningful time there :)

Children went to the lab to check how "Temperature Affects Plant Bulbs". They could see that if the weather is too cold plants are not going to grow easily. They also could notice the light also affects plants growing. As a conclusion they noticed that a good temperature, enough sunlight and watering properly to plants are good steps to follow if you want your plant grow well and healthy.

Subtraction with Regrouping

As a 2nd grader Maths Teacher I can see that some of my students struggle with this new concept. What I have found to be successful is to tell them about "houses" and have them draw two houses in a row. We have the ones house and the tens house. Throughout the lesson, I refer to our "houses." I have to remind them that we always begin any math problems with the "ones" house.
The next way I help them visualize what we are doing is to think of the bottom number as the people, and the top number as the apples in a tree. This way they will be reminded to start at the bottom and look up to see the apples for correct subtraction. If there are not enough apples in the tree, they must go next door to the tens house and take one of the tens and add it to the apples to have enough for the people on the bottom. I hope this helps you.

Going to The National Zoological Park
